Although its history spans only a little over forty years, its educational traditions can be traced back to the late 18th century: engineering education boasts over 125 years of history, while maritime education began as early as 1799, accumulating over 225 years of rich heritage, giving the university a profound foundation.

The university maintains close partnerships with over 370 to 390 universities worldwide, providing students with a broad international perspective. The university’s International Graduate Center (IGC) focuses on providing international MBA and Master’s programs, and has produced numerous graduates from around the world since its establishment in 2004.

As a member of the UAS7 alliance of leading German universities of applied sciences and a founding member of the STARS EU (European University Network), HSB holds a prominent position in German and European higher education.
