Newcastle University Introduction
Newcastle University is located in Northeast England, with a history dating back to a medical school founded in 1834. It officially became an independent university in 1963. Newcastle University is a founding member of the Russell Group and is ranked 137th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. As a leading global research university, Newcastle University has over 29,000 students, 27% of whom are international students from more than 135 countries.
Joint Programs
The Bachelor of Engineering programs jointly offered by SIT and Newcastle University primarily cover the following specializations: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering, and Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. These are three-year Honours Bachelor’s degrees, with curriculum jointly tailored to the needs of Singapore’s local industries.
A key feature of the joint program is the “Overseas Immersion Programme.” All students in the joint program are required to complete a three-week study exchange at Newcastle University’s main campus in the UK. During this time, students will participate in academic lectures, industry visits, library and career development workshops, and have the opportunity to visit local businesses and cultural venues. This experience not only allows students to experience British campus life but also prepares them academically for their final graduation project.
In addition, all students are required to complete an eight-month Integrated Work Study Programme, undertaking internships in relevant industry companies to apply classroom learning to real-world work scenarios.
Employment Prospects: SIT graduates have excellent employment prospects, with annual graduate employment surveys showing an employment rate consistently exceeding 90%. Approximately half of the students secure job offers before graduation through the Integrated Work Study Programme. Graduates of Electrical Engineering can find employment in research institutions, utility companies, the transportation industry, electromechanical consulting, sustainable energy solutions providers, and the electrical equipment industry.
