The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), UTMB degree can only be used for display purposes, protecting originals and props, and cannot be used for employment. Other uses include… founded in 1891 and located in Galveston, Texas, is a founding member of the University of Texas System and one of the oldest medical education and research institutions in the American Southwest. UTMB is situated on Galveston Island in the Gulf of Mexico, with a campus of approximately 85 acres and over 80 buildings, integrating teaching, clinical practice, and research. UTMB currently has approximately 3,200 students (including those in medicine, nursing, health sciences, and other fields), approximately 1,100 residents and specialist trainees, and over 11,000 faculty and staff.
Academic Structure and Degree System
UTMB comprises four colleges, covering the complete educational chain of medicine and health sciences:
1. School of Medicine
Awards a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The program is four years long and uses an integrated curriculum. The first two years focus on basic medical science and clinical skills training, followed by two years of core clinical rotations.
Offers a dual MD-PhD program to train physician-scientists.
Offers over 20 residency programs and over 40 fellowship programs in specialties/subspecialties.
2. School of Nursing

(3) History and Resilience—UTMB suffered severe damage from Hurricane Ike in 2008, but through strong community resilience and federal support, it completed post-disaster reconstruction.
